Notices Of Rent Increase For DC Residential Tenants?

As of January 2024, residential landlords are now required to provide sixty (60) days advance written notice of any rent increase to tenants, rather than the standard thirty (30) day written notice which had been in place for decades.

Do be aware then Tenants must receive the notice a full sixty days in advance of the implementation date. Meaning for example, for a July 1 effective date for the increase, notice must be received by the tenant by April 30th. The date of a postmark does not count.

Be sure to factor in this extra thirty (30) days when planning your next rent increase!
