What About The New Residential Rental Caps In Montgomery County, Maryland?

They were recently passed and will be implemented in the upcoming months.

In June the Montgomery County Council voted to limit the amount that landlords may charge certain Montgomery County tenants. Under this new law, annual rent increases are limited to 3% plus inflation, but there is also a hard cap of 6% for the annual increase. Certain properties are exempt from this rental cap, such as newly constructed buildings or those substantially renovated within the last twenty-three years, religious facilities, licensed assisted living facilities or nursing homes, and small landlords (which in this case, those who rent two or fewer units).

The Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs is now tasked with promulgating regulations with respect to this law.
